The pound tumbled as sterling was hammered and shares in companies fell, but there was a silver lining for businesses in a Brexit-devastated UK.
Ajit Pai, the commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission, said on Twitter that a repeal of the EU-US trade deal was a good thing for the UK, saying: “Remaining in the EU would be the best of both worlds: the best free trade deal in the world and an economy that is free of protectionist protectionism.”
Pai said the deal could help the UK “create a more attractive global destination for American companies to invest in the UK”.
“The deal would provide certainty for U.S. companies by reducing trade barriers and providing a level playing field for the U.K. and the U,S.A.,” he said.
